THOMAS MILLIOTO DMA

Dr. Thomas Millioto has been awarded the “Cecile Insdorf Award for Excellence in Teaching for 2012” by the President of CUNY Hunter where he teaches individual classical guitar lessons (MU-P 401, 431, 682 and 781) as well as group guitar classes (MU-P 121 and 122) as an Adjunct Assistant Professor.

Thomas graduated form SUNY Stony Brook with a doctoral degree in classical guitar performance while also studying performance on the lute and the 19th century classical guitar.  His students have gained acceptance into college level music programs at SUNY Fredonia, Reed College, CUNY Hunter and the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music as well as into youth music programs at Mannes, the Manhattan School of Music and Juilliard. Thomas received his Bachelors degree in classical guitar performance from SUNY Fredonia under Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski, has participated in master classes given by Manuel Barrueco and the Evangelos Assimakopoulos and Liza Zoe duo and has had formative private lessons with David Starobin, Nikita Koshkin, Michael Cedric-Smith and Pat O’Brian. Thomas is also active as a recording engineer, composer and studio musician. His skills have been heard in TV shows such as Emeril Lagasse’s Emeril Green, the national TV and radio commercials for the clothing franchises Once Upon a Child and  Plato’s Closet, in films such as Viva Cepeda, Taken and Game Night and on Lisa Brigantino’s CD release Wonder Wheel.

Thomas was also an instructor for the Professional Studies Division of the Brooklyn Queens Conservatory of Music, which commissioned an original work from him for its 2008-2009 composers concert. Thomas is currently writing another piece for upcoming 2013 concerts. The Conservatory also featured him on its 2007-2008 and 2002-2003 Faculty Showcase series where he gave period music performances. Thomas also helped to edit the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh editions of Listen, a college level music appreciation text published by Bedford/St. Martin’s.
